OUR GREEN INITIATIVE
By having your empty inkjet cartridge refilled, you'll end up saving as much as 50% off the cost of buying a brand new cartridge. And as impressive as that is, there's an even greater saving to be had.the environment.

Eight out of ten people still don't know they can refill their ink cartridges. Our green initiative is to offer free promotion to green businesses that offer consumer products, education and solutions. We do this by having persons contact us and tell us their story. We post their story on our website and at the end of the year we recognize them for their efforts.

Also tell us either your story or the story of someone else who is making strides in environmental conservation and protection.

Let's keep our Bahama Islands clean, green and pristine!

Things You Should Know:

Background

. In 2005, over 700 million cartridges were sold in the U.S.
. In 2005, over 60 million new cartridges were sold in Canada.
. In 2005, over 500 million new cartridges were sold in Europe.
. In 2005, over 100 million remanufactured cartridges were sold worldwide.

Toxicity

. 2 1/2 ounces of oil are used for every new inkjet cartridge produced.
. 3 1/2 quarts of oil are used for every new laser cartridge produced.
. Each laser printer cartridge, on average, consists of approximately 2 1/2 pounds of plastic - primarily acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) - along with steel, aluminum and rubber.
. Manufacturing each new printer cartridge requires approximately 3 quarts of petrolium to power the manufacturing process that converts oil and natural gas to plastics.
. Each cartridge contains petrolium as "embedded" energy (i.e.. fuel value of the plastic itself). It takes the energy equivalent of approximately 1/2 gallon of oil to make one 2 1/2 pound cartridge.

Current Recycling

. By some estimates, nearly 8 ink and toner cartridges are thrown away in the U.S. every second (= approximately 240 million per year).
. Industry analysts estimate that a spent ink and toner cartridge can be reused between 4 and 7 times.
. Over 86% of all inkjet cartridges sold in this country are thrown away according to industry statistics.
. 350 million laser toner cartridges end up in landfills or approximately 875 million pounds of environmental waste.
. Stacked end to end, these discarded printer cartridges would cover a distance of over 24,000 miles - enough to circle the earth!
. In the next 7 years, if all of the laser and inkjet cartridges are saved from landfills, a bridge could be built from the Earth to the Moon!
